About Our Services
What does Evolutionary Genealogy do?
Evolutionary Genealogy specializes in capturing and preserving family heritage through comprehensive genealogical research combined with meaningful storytelling. We create family legacy documents that integrate historical genealogical data with personal narratives, making your family history both accurate and deeply meaningful. Our services are particularly suited to end-of-life documentation, helping individuals and families preserve their stories for future generations.
How is Evolutionary Genealogy different from other genealogy services?
We uniquely combine three elements:
- Rigorous genealogical research using verified sources and proper documentation
- Personal narrative integration capturing your family unique stories
- Legacy preservation in beautiful, professional formats (books, videos, digital archives)
What if I don’t have much family information to start with?
That’s completely normal. We begin with detailed interviews to capture your personal knowledge and memories, then use public records, archival research, and historical databases to fill in the genealogical details. Our researchers are experienced at uncovering family history even with limited starting information. We work at your pace and can focus on whatever generations or branches are most important to you.
Can you research family members living overseas?
Yes, absolutely. We specialize in international genealogical research and have partnerships with genealogists in key countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, Asia, and beyond. International research may involve additional costs depending on the country and records complexity, but we can provide estimates during your initial consultation.

Research & Methodology
What sources do you use for genealogical research?
We use a wide variety of verified authoritative sources:
- Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, and FindMyPast
- Australian Bureau of Statistics and National Archives
- Local council records and state registries
- Newspaper archives and historical publications
- Immigration and naturalization records
- International databases for overseas research
- Cemetery records, wills, and probate documents
All sources are properly cited in our documentation, following genealogical standards.
Do you offer DNA analysis integration?
Yes. We can coordinate with DNA testing services (Ancestry DNA, MyHeritage DNA, etc.) and integrate genetic genealogy findings into your family tree. This service helps confirm genealogical connections and can sometimes reveal unexpected relationships. We offer DNA coordination and analysis at $400-1500 as an add-on service.
How far back can you research my family tree?
This depends on records availability and your budget. Our basic packages typically cover 4-6 generations. Extended research packages can reach 7+ generations, and sometimes much further for well-documented families. For some ancestral lines, particularly those with strong record-keeping, we can trace families back 10+ generations. We discuss realistic goals during your consultation.
How do you ensure accuracy in your research?
Accuracy is paramount. We follow strict genealogical standards, always verify information from multiple sources, document all findings with proper source citations, and conduct quality checks before presenting results. If we encounter conflicting information or gaps, we clearly note these in our documentation and explain our reasoning for conclusions.
Interviews & Personal Stories
Will I need to do interviews?
It depends on your package. Genealogy-only services don’t require interviews. However, our Ancestral Story Collection and Family Legacy Book packages include 2-3 guided interviews to capture your personal narratives, memories, and family traditions. Interviews are conducted in a relaxed, conversational manner and can be done in person, by phone, or via video call.
What topics do interviews typically cover?
Interview topics are tailored to your interests but may include:
- Early childhood memories and family traditions
- Career, education, and major life achievements
- Love story and family relationships
- Immigration or migration stories
- Values, lessons learned, and wisdom to share
- Favourite stories and family anecdotes
Can family members participate in interviews?
Absolutely. Many families find that having a spouse, adult child, or sibling present enhances the interview process. They can prompt memories and add their own perspectives. Some families choose separate interviews, while others prefer group sessions. We’ll work with you to determine what feels most comfortable.
What happens if someone becomes unavailable during the project?
Life happens. If a subject passes away or circumstances change during a project, we can adapt. We may work with family members to complete interviews, use existing recordings or materials, or adjust the project scope. We’re committed to honouring each person’s story and we’ll discuss options compassionately and professionally.
Photos, Documents & Materials
Can you scan and restore old family photos?
Yes. We offer photo digitization and restoration as add-on services. We can scan old photographs and documents, improve image quality, and restore faded or damaged photos. This is particularly valuable for legacy projects, as it preserves precious visual records. Photo restoration costs $35- - $100 per image depending on the extent of damage.
How should I provide family materials to you?
You can provide materials in several ways:
- Bring originals to your interview (we’ll handle them carefully)
- Mail photocopies or digital scans
- Email digital files
- Use our secure online portal for large files
If you want us to scan originals, we can arrange pickup or collection from your location.
Will you return original photos and documents?
Absolutely. We treat your original materials with great care. If you provide originals, we return them promptly after digitization or our project is complete. We never retain originals without your explicit permission.
Deliverables & Formats
What format will my legacy book be in?
Legacy books are professionally bound hardcover volumes with high-quality paper and professional typography. They are designed to be beautiful, durable, and treasured as family heirlooms. You also receive digital PDF copies for sharing and storage.

Yes. You have lifetime access to your digital files, and you can request updates or additions at any time. Additional revisions or additions are charged at $150 per hour of work. Many families add to their legacy documents as new stories emerge.
Privacy & Security

Digital files are stored in secure cloud backup systems with redundancy to prevent loss. You receive your own copies, and we maintain archival copies for backup purposes. All files are encrypted and protected. You maintain ownership and can download your files anytime.
Can I control who sees my legacy materials?
Completely. You decide who receives printed copies, who has digital access, and whether materials are shared on our website or family portal. Some families keep materials private, while others choose to share widely. It’s your story and your choice.
What if sensitive or private information comes up?
If you mention sensitive matters during interviews (family conflicts, health issues, etc.), we discuss with you what gets included in the final document. Some information may be noted in private notes for context but excluded from printed materials. You always have final approval of content.

We conduct multiple shorter sessions at preferred locations, prioritize interviews, and provide rapid turnarounds for first drafts. Your dignity and comfort are our priority.
What if family members disagree on content?
We handle this professionally. We work with the primary subject to determine what gets included. If family members request changes, we discuss respectfully and find solutions that honour everyone’s perspectives while staying truthful to the subject’s story. Your wishes take precedence.
Do you work with estranged family members?
Yes. Some clients want to document family history even when relationships are strained. We respect everyone’s boundaries and can focus on specific family branches or periods that matter most to you. We don’t judge or intervene in family dynamics; our role is to preserve your story.
Can you help document family secrets or difficult histories?
We can. Many families have complex histories; affairs, estrangement, hardship, or trauma. These stories are important and deserve respectful documentation. We discuss with you how to address sensitive topics with honesty and dignity, balancing emotional truth with factual accuracy.
